The standard
This site is built to WCAG 2.2 Level AA. The federal rule for state and local government websites requires WCAG 2.1 Level AA. Version 2.2 adds rules for focus, dragging and target size, and the site follows them too.
How it is checked
- Every build is checked automatically: each page has one main heading, and every internal link and anchor resolves.
- Every page has been tested with axe-core against WCAG 2.0, 2.1 and 2.2 at levels A and AA, in both themes, on wide and narrow screens.
- Every page has been navigated by keyboard alone, including at 300 and 400 percent zoom.
- Pages reflow to a single column at 320 pixels wide without scrolling sideways.
- The contrast of every text element has been measured against its actual background, in both themes. When a device asks for more contrast, the site strengthens its labels and hairlines.
- Motion stops for anyone whose device asks for less, and every page reads in full without JavaScript.
Known limits
- The site has not yet been tested with VoiceOver, TalkBack or NVDA on real devices, or with Windows contrast themes.
- At 400 percent zoom on a short screen, the contact form’s message box is taller than the space below the header.
